Cookies and Local Storage We Use
The list below covers the storage we use today. The only shared data we collect is anonymized analytics, and advertising cookies are never set unless advertising is actually running (see the Advertising section below).
- pinGen_consent (localStorage) — records your cookie choice so the consent banner doesn't reappear, and Google's consent mode respects your preference. Retention: until you clear site data in your browser.
- pinGen_theme (localStorage) — remembers your light/dark theme choice. Retention: until you clear site data.
- spm_download_pref (localStorage) — remembers your chosen download format and quality for the pin maker. Retention: until you clear site data.
- _ga and _ga_<ID> (Google Analytics cookies) — anonymized usage statistics such as pages visited, browser type and device. These are set only where permitted: outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland they may load by default; inside those regions they are blocked until you click Accept in the consent banner. Retention: up to 2 years.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages are visited and how the tools perform. Google Analytics collects anonymized usage data and is loaded only on production domains, never during local development. You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On. Google processes this data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
Advertising Cookies (Not Currently Used)
SmartPinMaker does not currently serve advertisements. If we add advertising in the future, Google and its partners may use cookies (including the Google/DoubleClick cookie) to serve and measure ads. We will always ask for your consent before those cookies are placed, and you will always be able to change or withdraw your choice through the consent banner. You can also manage or opt out of personalized advertising at any time via Google Ads Settings and Your Online Choices.
Consent and Your Choices
When you first visit the site, the consent banner lets you choose:
- Accept — allows analytics and (in the future) advertising cookies.
- Decline — uses only the strictly necessary technical storage; in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland no analytics or advertising cookies are loaded.
Your choice is stored locally under pinGen_consent. You can change or withdraw it at any time by clearing site data for smartpinmaker.com in your browser settings — the banner will then appear again on your next visit. You can also delete or block cookies through your browser's own settings; please note that blocking all cookies may affect how the site works.
